The Last Wednesday's Walk

Well, I've decided that today will be the last Wednesday's Walk here at The Goodwin Family blog.

There hasn't been alot of interest in it lately and I am going to be really busy for the next few months. So, this is one thing that I can take off my list of things to do.

Are you interested in taking Wednesday's Walk on your blog? Just let me know!

For my last Wednesday's Walk post, I thought I'd post a fun memory that just happened yesterday.

Jeremy, being the mountain man that he is, called me on his way home and said, "I'm almost there... bring out a rubbermaid container."

"What size?"

"Doesn't matter... just grab one and come out here."

Now, it was pouring rain so I grabbed one of the girls toy bins, dumped it out in the playroom and ran outside with the bin over my head.

"What did you need this for?"

He was smiling like crazy and opening up the door to the bed of his truck. I wish I'd had my camera for the moment.

I peeked in the truck bed and found 3 box turtles in various places of his truck.

He pulled the turtles out and put them in the bin.

"I saw 2 turtles and knew the girls would love them so I looked around and found a 3rd turtle so they each could have one."

"Have one? We aren't keeping turtles..."

"I know... we'll let 'em go later."

So, we now have 3 box turtles in a bin on our front patio.

The girls love it. They open the front door every 30 minutes or so to check on them.

When the sun came out, they had to go outside and "play" with the turtles.

You see, according to little girls, turtles need celery, leaves, and plenty of dandelions.

Lots of dancing is required while gathering dandelions for these pet turtles.

The turtles names are (from left to right) Dan, Frank and Hephzibah.

Now, a bunch of Goodwin bonus points if you can tell me what movie my girls must watch ALOT to have named the turtles those specific names.

Anybody?

These girls love their mountain man Daddy who brings them all kinds of fun things.

To make this story even more exciting... because of the ways of nature and how my husband happened to find two of these turtles... Hephzibah just might be laying some baby turtles here in the near future.

Today, Jeremy moved her into another part of the yard and we are hoping she just might lay some eggs!

Our neighbors are going to be "turtle sitting" for us while we are away this week. So I'll be sure to keep you all posted, okay?

Thank you to all of you who have participated in Wednesday's Walk with me. I really do enjoy this meme so if someone would like to host it on their blog, I'd be happy to join in sometimes!

If you happened to write a Wednesday's Walk post this week, just leave me a comment and let me know and I'll stop by when I can.

Spiders and more Spiders!

Two posts in one day... I know, but this is something to blog about.

SPIDERS

We have so many of them this year! Thankfully, not inside the house... just outside. Big ones.

The other night, I came home late with the girls and there were 3 large ones on the siding by the front door. The girls screamed and poor Annalise didn't even want to go in the door.

Well, last night, we were coming inside the house, and this is what was in our front yard. Hooked between our two front trees was a massive spider web. And, it was doing it's job catching all the wonderful mosquitoes.

Amazing, right?

Then, this morning, we were leaving for our Exploration Day and this little friend was on my van!

Can you see the web against the window? The web went from my antenna to the windshield.

This spider rode on our van all day. No joke! It rode with us to the park, to the library, to the gym, home and to church tonight. He was still there, rebuilding his web for the 3rd time today, when I came into the house tonight.

Once again, kinda creepy! I'm just so grateful that this kind of creepy-ness is OUTDOORS!

Not Me! Monday - Kinda Creepy...

For this very interesting Not Me! Monday post as well as the revealing of our "pet", please beware...

something crazy is happening at the Goodwin house...

something kinda creepy...

Here is my husband not holding our new "pet" in this cottage cheese container.

We did not bring this "pet" home from our great week at Heartland Conference and Retreat Center speaking for the Ohio Girl's Ministries Retreat.

and, I am most certainly not holding our new "pet" in the same cottage cheese container while posing for an adorable picture with my lovely best friend (and aunt-in-law) Christa.

That would be very gross creepy.

We did not spend our Saturday evening celebration of Father's Day shopping for a new home for our "pet".

People spend money to "get rid of" these creepy creatures.

We did not use our girls plastic food containers and craft items to construct this actually-quite-cute home for our "pet".

Any guesses as to what our creepy creature "pet" is?

No joking. No Not Meing. No just kidding.
Our "pet" is a Tropical Discus Cockroach.
We absolutely do not have three of them.
in our house.
creepy.

You might be sitting there a little grossed out, asking WHY?

First answer... I'm married to a Children's Pastor named Jeremy.

Second answer... he is speaking at a kid's camp in Indiana this summer and this new "pet" is going with us. More info on that to come...

kinda creepy...

for more normal Not Me's, check out Mckmama. I doubt you will find any other families blogging about cockroaches.

UPDATED:

I've just been corrected... we do not have a discus cockroach, but a DISCOID cockroach.

oops. I am laughing... or not laughing... would you laugh?
