I am carrying on that tradition with our girls. It makes them appreciate the big parties more and also gives us moments to celebrate with just our family.
Last year, Annalise had a big party with friends, and because this year was her 5th birthday, we celebrated as a family at home.
She woke up to goody bags and a birthday card.
We made her birthday cake (from a box).
We oovooed with Grandma Sheila (Jeremy's mom). And with my sister and my niece.
We sang happy birthday and she blew out candles...
The cake was yummy with homemade frosting.
Precious Family Moments.
Well, except for Abby getting hit in the eye with a balloon, Annalise crying because she couldn't open her presents until Daddy got home from work, Elayna exclaiming that she was "jealous of Annalise!" and the middle of my "homemade" cake sinking in and the homemade frosting creating a sweet little lake right on top of the cake. Uhmm... yeah. except those moments.
But, I suppose that makes the day quite memorable.

Making memories. Oh, how you will enjoy remembering these moments when they are grown! And they will appreciate the effort you made for them. The cake looked very yummy!
ReplyDeleteWhat sweet memories to make! And looking at the cake made me want to go in the kitchen and make one now, lol, yum! :)
ReplyDeleteawww, but you will certainly remember those moments, eh?! It seems birthdays always have a little drama to them which is why your birthday tradition is an awesome one!!!! It keeps it it least a little calmer :)
ReplyDeleteYummy cake....is there any other kind of cake besides that from a box? LOL!! Hope she had a fun day!
ReplyDeleteI'd never heard of celebrating birthdays that way. Neat idea!
ReplyDeleteThe chocolate cake we made yesterday cracked right down the middle - nothing a little frosting patch couldn't hide :)
I think it's great that you recorded the 'real' memories along with the 'fun' ones!
I like the idea of celebrating with friends every other year! Hm, I'm going to have to put that in my back pocket for when we have kiddos.
ReplyDeleteLooks like everyone had a great time!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the idea of rotating the parties!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great tradition with the evens and odds. I may have to steal it. :)
ReplyDeleteYou're girls are adorable.

Nothing better than memories!
ReplyDeleteBirthday's have always been simple at my house growing up, yet a big deal at the same time.
There's always 'those' moments. lol We didn't have a party this year for Kyndra. We took her to the museum.
